Luri language and geography of Luri language in Iran
Luri is a member of the Indo-European languages and is one of the Iranian languages. Traditional linguists have sometimes considered it a dialect of Pahlavi or Middle Persian. However, in modern linguistic studies, due to the specific similarities and affinities, Luri is classified as one of the main languages in the Kurdish language subcategory.
Professor Dehkhoda, in his dictionary, not only linguistically but also ethnically-racially, identifies the Lurs as one of the main Kurdish groups: “A group of Kurds live in the mountainous regions between Isfahan and Khuzestan and these regions are known as Lor lands, Lorestan, and Lur.” Dr. Parviz Natel-Khanlari also introduces Luri and Bakhtiari dialects as close to the Kurdish language and related to this language.
