Kurdish language and geography of Kurdish language in Iran

Kurdish language: Kurdish is part of the Indo-European family of languages. With its many dialects, it is a member of the northeast branch of this family in the Indo-Iranian languages and is one of the northwestern languages of the Iranian languages (Avestan, Kurdish, Persian, Baluchi, Tajik, and Pashto). The Kurdish language, with about 30 to 40 million speakers in Iran, Iraq, Turkey, Syria, Armenia, Azerbaijan and several former Soviet countries, is one of the most active and vibrant Indo-European languages with four major subdivisions including Northern Kurdish or Kurmanji (Badini, Bayazidi, Shakaki, Butani, etc.), Central or Sorani Kurdish (Mokryani, Ardalani, and Jafi), Southern Kurdish (Kalhori, Laki and Ilami), Zazaki-Gorani and Hawrami.
